Job summary

Fortress Safety, part of Halma Group, is seeking an Application & Technical Support Engineer to help customers with engineered machine-safety interlocks. This hands-on role focuses on real machinery challenges across pre- and post-sales, not IT systems, offering a path toward leadership or product management.

You will troubleshoot on-site, by phone or email, and collaborate with Sales to specify safety solutions. A technical engineering background is essential.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years in applications, field-service, technical-support or engineering in industrial/machinery/automation.
• Familiarity with industrial safety systems, PLCs, HMIs and automation technologies.
• Machinery electrical knowledge is beneficial.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving with physical products.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with customers.
• Ability to collaborate across Design, Quality, Sales and Engineering.
• Engineering degree or relevant technical discipline; equivalent experience considered.

• Provide expert application and troubleshooting support for machine-safety interlocks by phone, email and on-site.
• Manage daily customer enquiries via the technical-support inbox and phone line, meeting KPIs.
• Diagnose complex product and application issues to identify root causes and fixes.
• Partner with Sales to help customers specify and integrate safety solutions.
• Travel to customer sites to troubleshoot and resolve field issues.
• Support webinars, trade shows and training sessions to drive product adoption.
• Capture customer feedback and feed real-world insight into product development.
• Build technical depth in IO-Link Safety and related electrical devices.

About the opportunity

Fortress Safety is looking for a hands‑on Application & Technical Support Engineer to support our engineered machine-safety and interlocking products across pre- and post‑sales. This is a physical-product engineering role, not IT / SaaS — you'll solve real machinery challenges for customers, not troubleshoot IT systems. It's an excellent step for an engineer looking to grow toward Sales, Product Management or technical leadership.

What you'll be doing

Provide expert application and troubleshooting support for our machine-safety interlocking products, by phone, email and on-site.

Manage daily customer enquiries via the technical-support inbox and phone line, meeting agreed KPIs.

Diagnose complex product and application issues to identify root causes and effective fixes.

Partner with the Sales team to help customers specify and integrate safety solutions using automation-system knowledge.

Travel to customer sites to troubleshoot and resolve issues in the field.

Support webinars, trade shows and training sessions to drive product adoption.

Capture customer feedback and feed real-world insight into product development.

Build technical depth in emerging technologies including IO-Link Safety and electrical devices such as Remlive.

What you’ll bring

1–3 years in an application, field-service, technical-support or engineering role within an industrial / machinery / automation setting.

Familiarity with industrial safety systems, PLCs, HMIs and automation technologies (hands‑on experience a plus).

Machinery electrical knowledge or experience (beneficial).

Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving ability with physical, engineered products.

Confident written and verbal communication with customers.

Ability to collaborate across Design, Quality, Sales and Engineering.

Degree in Engineering or a relevant technical discipline — equivalent experience or qualifications also considered.
