Job summary

Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company is seeking a qualified undergraduate for its 2027 Summer Internship Program in West Des Moines, IA. The paid internship runs May 17–Aug 6, up to 40 hours/week, with potential to become a full-time role later.

Applicants should be enrolled sophomores, juniors, or seniors in IT/CS/Software Engineering or related fields (May 2027 grads not eligible), with exposure to scripting, source control, Linux, Windows, CI/CD, and a willingness to learn and collaborate

Qualifications

• Currently-enrolled undergraduate student in IT/CS/Software Engineering or related field (May 2027 graduates not eligible).
• Exposure to scripting, source control, Linux, Windows, CI/CD or similar tools is a plus.
• Must be willing to learn, communicate clearly, follow procedures and work well with the team.

Responsibilities

• Learns and assists with software builds: running builds, reviewing results, troubleshooting issues.
• Assists with application deployments in development, test, and other environments using established procedures.
• Supports configuration and maintenance of DevOps and application-management tools and related scripts/documentation.
• Assists with scoped application upgrades and routine maintenance, including GitHub and other development tools.
• Helps monitor and troubleshoot assigned systems, escalates issues as needed.
• Follows IT, security, and change management standards and performs related duties.

Farmers Mutual Hail (located in West Des Moines, IA) is currently looking for a qualified undergraduate to join our 2027 Summer Internship Program. This is a paid internship starting Monday, May 17 through Friday, August 6, working up to 40 hours per week for the summer, with the potential to turn into a full-time, permanent position in the future.

We are looking for currently-enrolled college students who are close to the West Des Moines area, as this is not a remote internship.

Requirements

Education: Must be a currently-enrolled sophomore, junior or senior at an undergraduate college or university, majoring in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related technical field (May 2027 graduates will not be eligible).

Skills: Exposure to scripting, source control, Linux, Windows, CI/CD, or other software development tools is a plus. Must be willing to learn, communication clearly, follow established procedures, and work effectively with experienced team members.

Responsibilities

• Learns and assists with software builds, including but not limited to running builds, reviewing results, and helping troubleshoot build issues.
• Assists with the application deployments in development, test, and other environments using established procedures.
• Support configuration and maintenance of DevOps and application-management tools and helps maintain related scripts and documentation.
• Assists with appropriately scoped application upgrades and routine maintenance, including lighter systems with regular upgrade cycles such as GitHub and other development tools.
• Helps monitor and troubleshoot assigned systems, escalating issues requiring higher-level administration or production support.
• Follows IT, security, and change management standards and performs other related duties as assigned.
