Job summary

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking a full-time appellate attorney in the Child Protection Division. This attorney must have exceptional writing skills and must be able to efficiently work through voluminous trial court records and lengthy transcripts.

This attorney will draft precise motions and briefs, be familiar with the Maine Rules of Appellate Procedure, and build appendices. He/she will handle complex appellate matters and present strong oral advocacy in court.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be fully admitted members of the Maine Bar in good standing, who are experienced writers and oral advocates.
• Impeccable writing, editing, case-tracking and time-management skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Write precise motions and briefs for appellate matters.
• Be comfortable with the Maine Rules of Appellate Procedure and assembly of appendices.
• Prepare and deliver oral arguments and write 60 to 80 briefs per year.
• Occasionally respond to Petitions for Certiorari in the U.S. Supreme Court.
• May involve district court litigation as needed.
