Job summary

Office of the Attorney General seeks a full-time Assistant Attorney General in the Child Protection Division (Appellate). The role concentrates on Maine appellate work, including 60 to 80 briefs per year and several live oral arguments.

Applicants must be admitted to the Maine Bar and demonstrate exceptional writing, strong oral advocacy, editing, and time management to handle complex, high-profile cases involving constitutional issues.

Qualifications

• Must be admitted to the Maine Bar in good standing.
• Exceptional writing and oral advocacy skills required.
• Impeccable editing, case-tracking and time-management abilities.
• Familiarity with Maine Rules of Appellate Procedure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Draft precise motions and briefs for appellate court work.
• Write 60–80 briefs per year and participate in live oral arguments.
• Work with Maine Supreme Judicial Court and occasional district court matters.
• Engage in training, workgroups and committees.
• Balance child safety with parental rights and State interests.
