Job summary

Flint Hills Resources’ Pine Bend Refinery seeks an Advanced Process Control Engineer to evaluate and capture value from APC and Real-Time Optimization opportunities, transforming APC capabilities into cross-unit optimization and controls.

You will collaborate with operations, optimization, and vendors to prioritize and develop APC applications (DMC3) and explore AI-driven process control to improve availability, performance, and profitability.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering OR a minimum of ten (10) years of work experience with process control systems.
Five (5) years or more of work experience as a process or controls engineer.
Experience communicating effectively with various levels of an organization (engineers, managers, operators, team leaders, contractors).

Responsibilities

Partner with optimization and operations teams to prioritize and develop models.
Prioritize, design, develop, test, and document APC applications using DMC3 for refinery optimization.
Provide insights and short-term support for system optimization and oil flow planning.
Collaborate with vendors on emerging technologies (AI for process control).
Educate refinery personnel on APC benefits; troubleshoot APC/RTO issues and implement customer-driven improvements.
Maintain communication lines with operators, engineers, and managers to sustain high model utilization.
Communicate value, opportunities, and control health across process areas.
Demonstrate analytical thinking and clear communication.
