Overview
We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Apartments Porter/Maintenance Worker to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming residential community. This role supports the overall appearance, functionality, and day-to-day upkeep of apartment buildings and common areas. The ideal candidate takes pride in quality work, responds professionally to resident and team needs, and contributes to a positive living environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness of common areas, lobbies, hallways, stairwells, elevators, and exterior grounds.
- Perform routine porter duties, including trash removal, recycling, sweeping, mopping, and surface cleaning.
- Assist with basic maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, unclogging drains, and minor repairs.
- Inspect building areas regularly and report safety hazards, damages, or repair needs promptly.
- Support apartment turns by assisting with cleaning, touch-ups, and preparation for new residents.
- Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Help move materials, equipment, and supplies as needed.
- Monitor and maintain stocked supplies for cleaning and maintenance activities.
- Work with property management and other team members to ensure building standards are met.
- Follow all safety procedures and use equipment and cleaning products appropriately.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in porter, janitorial, custodial, maintenance, or related work preferred.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, tools, and general maintenance practices.
- Ability to perform physical work, including standing, walking, lifting, bending, and carrying supplies.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to manage daily priorities effectively.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from supervisors.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working in multifamily housing or residential property management.
- Familiarity with basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or appliance repair tasks.
- Knowledge of safe handling procedures for cleaning chemicals and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to identify maintenance issues before they become larger problems.
