Job summary

Uncommon Schools in New Jersey seeks an Uncommon High School History teacher to lead analysis of World, US History, Government, and Economics, preparing students for AP and college coursework. You will guide student discourse, emphasize sourcing, historiography, and textual analysis while fostering an inclusive classroom and partnering with families.

You will meet weekly with an instructional coach to review progress.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and NJ certification eligibility.
• 1-2 years of experience in urban K-12 settings preferred.
• Strong commitment to social-emotional and academic development.
• Ability to analyze student work and differentiate instruction.

Responsibilities

• Teach a curriculum prioritizing analysis of World, US History, American Government, and Economics for AP and college coursework.
• Facilitate student-led discourse, debates, and evidence-based argumentation.
• Develop students' sourcing, historiography, and analytical writing skills through primary/secondary sources.
• Foster an inclusive, safe environment where students voice evidenced opinions.
• Collaborate with History department to set academic and engagement goals.
• Meet weekly with principal/coach to review student work trends and adjust instruction.
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learners’ needs.
• Build positive relationships with students and engage families to support learning.
• Participate in weekly school-wide meetings and department planning.
