Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing, LLC is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Manager for a respected higher education institution in Boston, MA. The role leads the AP function, manages staff, and drives process improvements to ensure timely and accurate payments.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in AP with supervisory experience, deep knowledge of AP processes and internal controls, and proficiency in Excel and ERP systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounts payable experience including supervisory or management responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes, internal controls, and financial systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP/accounting systems.
  • Experience with Workday Financials or similar ERP systems preferred.
  • Prior experience in higher education, nonprofit, or other complex organizational environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Accounts Payable department.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop AP staff while fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Oversee invoice processing, payment runs, employee reimbursements, and vendor management activities.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, internal controls, and accounting standards.
  • Review and approve invoice coding, payment batches, and vendor account reconciliations.
  • Partner with departments across the organization to resolve payment issues and improve workflows.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, audits, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, system enhancements, and best practices within the AP function.
