Job summary

Scripps Research’s Calibr-Skaggs Institute seeks a Research Assistant I to support antiviral drug and immune modulator discovery programs. You’ll work in a team to run high-throughput assays, develop new in vitro tests, and maintain virus stocks and cell lines.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field, 2+ years of experience (Master’s with 1–2 years acceptable), and strong communication skills. A fast-paced environment and meticulous data work are expected.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, microbiology or a relevant scientific discipline.
• Requires 2+ years experience; Master’s degree with 1-2 years experience acceptable.
• Experience with viruses and antiviral assays preferred.
• Experience with cell-based and biochemical assays (high-content imaging, luminescence, fluorescence, absorbance).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Work under general supervision.
• Perform human primary cell and cell line culture; prepare media and reagents.
• Handle compounds and manage plate inventory.
• Execute high-throughput antiviral assays for screening campaigns.
• Analyze data and document lab notebook entries.
• Assist in designing experiments within overall research plan.
