Job Description

POSITION TITLE: STEM Teacher – Amesbury Middle School

SUPERVISOR: Building Principal

SALARY RANGE: Per Teacher Contract

Job Description:

A demonstrated knowledge and passion for middle school science, including strong knowledge and understanding of the MA Science and Technology Engineering Curriculum Framework

Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and competence of subject matter associated with teaching assignment.

Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

Prepare lessons for all content areas.

Integrate technology into lessons to support student achievement.

Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the school.

Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, School Committee Policy and administrative regulations.

Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and School Committee policy.

Accept a share of responsibility for supervising and monitoring both formal and informal non-classroom activities.

Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.

Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.

Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required.

A proven track record of professional collaboration.

Collaborate with other teachers and paraprofessionals as appropriate and necessary.

PLTW Curriculum

The STEM class at Amesbury Middle School utilizes the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum. The ideal candidate will have experience with PLTW and be open to attending training sessions for current and future PLTW units.

Design and Modeling - Grade 6

Students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They are then challenged and empowered to use and apply what they’ve learned throughout the unit to design a therapeutic toy for a child who has cerebral palsy.

Computer Science for Innovators and Makers - Grade 7

This unit will allow students to discover computer science concepts and skills by creating personally relevant, tangible, and shareable projects. Throughout the unit, students will learn about programming for the physical world by blending hardware design and software development. They will design and develop a physical computing device, interactive art installation, or wearable, and plan and develop code for microcontrollers that bring their physical designs to life.

Medical Detectives - Grade 8

Students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they collect and analyze medical data to diagnose disease. They solve medical mysteries through hands‑on projects and labs, measure and interpret vital signs, examine nervous system structure and function, and investigate disease outbreaks.
