This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for 2 weeks per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee will work approximately 11.5 months per year with a furlough period from approximately mid-April to late April.

The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to:

• Care for park stock (up to 30 horses and mules) including: feeding, grooming, shoeing, and minor medical care.
• Use park stock to pack strings of up to 8 animals into the backcountry camps. Packing tools, equipment, gear and/or food for trail crew operations.
• Maintaining corrals, pasture fences, hay barns, tack sheds, pastures and irrigation systems.
• Operate and maintain truck and trailer combos, and heavy equipment to haul materials, stock and for snow removal operations.

Area Information: Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway in northwestern Wyoming preserve a spectacular landscape. The park encompasses the Teton Range and broad valley of Jackson Hole. Majestic peaks, wild canyons, piedmont lakes, forests, sagebrush meadows and the Snake River combine into one of the most scenic settings anywhere in North America. With 333,000 combined acres, the parks are at the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the most biologically diverse regions of the world.

This position is located in Moose, WY. Services are available in the neighboring town of Jackson, a small, recreation-focused community of 10,000 year-round residents. The town caters to four million tourists every summer, has an excellent hospital, well-respected school system, grocery stores, restaurants, and seasonal festivals. Outdoor activities abound including hiking, camping, backpacking, horseback riding, boating, biking, fishing, skiing, and mountaineering. Summer temperatures range between 65 - 80 degrees. Winter temperatures range from 30 degrees to below zero with heavy snow.
