Job summary

GENESEE COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY in Burton, Michigan is seeking a dedicated individual to handle various animal care responsibilities. The role includes managing records in the PetPoint database, administering medications, and ensuring the Intake Desk is operational during open hours. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, show capacity to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers, and have knowledge of animal health.

This position also requires euthanizing animals as necessary, along with assisting in the handling of animals. A compassionate and knowledgeable approach to pet care is essential.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of animal health and behavior issues.
• Ability to enter data into a PC database and retrieve reports.

Responsibilities

• Records all relevant data into PetPoint database.
• Administers medications as prescribed to all admitted animals.
• Mans the Intake Desk during public hours.
• Handles financial transactions and balances cash register daily.
• Maintains good relationships with volunteers.
• Euthanizes animals when required.
• Aids in controlling and moving large or unruly animals.

Duties

• Records all pertinent data into PetPoint database
• Assures the re-vaccination of all animals admitted to the facility as needed, and administer medications, either orally, nasally, or by injection, according to the prescribed guidelines
• Assures that the Intake Desk is manned during all house open to the public
• Refers questions about non-routine circumstances to the Shelter Manager
• Receives payments/donations for services rendered, according to a defined schedule, and balances the cash register to the computer record of transactions daily
• Maintains a good working relationship with volunteers at the Shelter
• Euthanizes animals is required
• Assists other staff in holding animals being administered medication or euthanized, and aids in controlling and moving large or unruly animals
• Performs other duties as assigned by Shelter Manager

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Ability to work well with staff, volunteers and customers, especially those surrendering pets for euthanizing
• Demonstrate a basic understanding of infection control procedures and safe handling of dogs and cats
