Job summary

Genesee County Humane Society in Burton, MI is hiring for a kennel assistant to support daily shelter operations and animal care. You will clean kennels, wash dishes, feed and water animals, and assist with supply loads while maintaining a safe, sanitary workplace.

You will work closely with volunteers and staff, following safety guidelines and helping to keep the shelter organized and welcoming for animals and visitors alike.

Responsibilities

• Clean, scrub and spray down kennels
• Squeegee floors
• Cleans and maintains the food preparation room
• Wash dishes
• Wash, dry and fold laundry
• Feed and water animals
• Loads/unloads food, newspapers and other supplies
• Assists with pick up newspapers and other trash around the shelter grounds
• Refers questions about non-routine circumstances to Shelter Manager
• Maintains a good working relationship with volunteers at the shelter
• Other duties as assigned by Shelter Manager and/or Executive Director

• Change buckets in outside runs
• Feed and water animals
• Identifies animals with potential health problems
• Loads/unloads food, newspapers and other supplies
• Assists with pick up newspapers and other trash around the shelter grounds
• Refers questions about non-routine circumstances to Shelter Manager
• Maintains a good working relationship with volunteers at the shelter
• Other duties as assigned by Shelter Manager and/or Executive Director

Physical

This position involves standing and walking for extensive periods of time, along with bending, reaching, holding and lifting (some animals weighing in excess of 50 lbs.). The incumbent will be exposed to various cleaning chemicals and animal medications and waste, and is expected to be familiar with and follow OSHA rules in their handling and administration. The incumbent is exposed to continual contact with cats, dogs and other animals.
