Job summary

The City of Naperville seeks a full-time Animal Control Officer to join the Animal Control Unit in the Naperville Police Department Patrol Division. This is a union position with an afternoon/evening shift determined by seniority, requiring five consecutive days including weekends and holidays.

The ACO investigates animal-related complaints, captures and relocates wildlife, maintains the animal retention facility, administers medications, and provides shelter enrichment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–3 years’ experience in animal care and behavior preferred (2–4 years ideal).
• Associate’s degree in an animal-related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Investigate animal-related complaints and incidents.
• Capture, transport, and relocate wildlife as required.
• Maintain sanitation and upkeep of the animal retention facility and housed animals.
• Administer medications and provide shelter enrichment.
• Collect fees and handle office duties; assist public education on wildlife.
