Job summary

Nebraska Humane Society in Omaha, Nebraska is seeking an Animal Control Officer for the Field Operations team.

This non-exempt, full-time role works 3:30 pm to midnight, handling animal control duties, educating the public, and responding to complaints.

You will engage in humane handling, citations, court appearances, and maintain logs, vehicles, and equipment while representing the organization professionally.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with Windows 7 and/or 10 and Office 2007+.
• Self-starter able to work independently.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license, good driving record, and proof of vehicle insurance.
• Ability to navigate city streets and locate addresses with ease.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment under stress.
• Ability to sort and prioritize calls and determine efficient routes.
• Willingness to work with a culturally diverse staff and community.
• Compassion for animals and commitment to welfare.
• Some college coursework preferred; animal handling experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Capture, lead, lift, carry and restrain animals of various sizes.
• Handle sick, injured, or dangerous animals.
• Educate the public on animal control ordinances and humane care.
• Respond to animal-related complaints and calls for service.
• Prepare case reports daily and appear in court when required.
• Maintain equipment, vehicle, log sheets and uniform.
