Job summary

The City of Naperville seeks a full-time Animal Control Officer within the Naperville Police Department’s Patrol Division. This union, shift position includes an afternoon/evening shift, weekends and holidays, with emergency call-outs as determined by seniority.

Animal Control Officer will investigate animal complaints, capture/relocate wildlife, maintain sanitation of the facility, administer medications, and provide shelter enrichment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in animal care and handling; 2–4 years preferred in a similar role.
  • Humane euthanasia license required within one year of hire.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate a variety of animal-related complaints and capture/transport/relocate wildlife as needed.
  • Perform sanitation and maintenance of the animal retention facility and housed animals; administer medication as required.
  • Provide shelter enrichment for animals and act as customer service contact.
  • Collect fees and perform office administration tasks as necessary.
  • Participate in educational programs for the public and advise residents on wildlife problems.
