Job summary

Seaboard Foods is seeking animal caretakers to care for pigs at our swine production facilities. On-the-job training is provided; prior experience is not required. You will monitor feed, water, barn conditions, and perform tasks related to breeding and piglet processing on the sow farm as needed.

Responsibilities include ensuring safety, maintaining inventory, identifying disease signs, and supporting PQA certification efforts. Strong work ethic and ability to work weekends are essential.

Qualifications

  • No education required.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Flexible and able to work weekends (Sat/Sun).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is helpful but not required.

  • Load and unload pigs as scheduled.

  • Sort hogs with disqualifying defects.
  • Aim to achieve PQA certification with the National Pork Board.

Job description

Animal caretakers are responsible for attending to and caring for pigs in our swine production facilities. On-the-job training is provided; related experience is not necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS
  • Monitoring feed quality and water supply
  • Monitoring barn environment and ventilation systems
  • Breeding sows (if placed on sow farm)
  • Processing piglets (if placed on sow farm)
  • Loading and unloading pigs as scheduled
  • Enforce strict safety guidelines and company animal welfare standards
  • Keep accurate inventory records of livestock
  • Ability to identify visual symptoms of common swine diseases, treat and vaccinate sick animals as necessary.
  • Sort off and segregate hogs with disqualifying physical defects
  • Achieve PQA certification with the National Pork Board
PAY RATE:

Hourly: $18.00

  • Insurance including medical, vision, dental, prescription drugs and life insurance—starts after 90 days.
  • 401 K retirement program- Seaboard will match 100% of the first 3% contributed and 50% of the next 2% contributed to the plan after 1 year of employment.
  • Vacation
    • 3 days (after 60 days of service)
    • 7 days (after 1 year of service)
    • 7 days (after 2 years of service)
    • 12 days ( after 10+ years of service)
  • Sick
    • 48 hours per calendar year
  • Holidays- 8 paid holidays after 90 days of employment
  • Referral Bonus-- $1,000 for each referred hire (if employee and referred hire are both active after 3 months)
  • Relocation assistance for 100+ mile moves (30 days free housing, partial travel reimbursement)
  • On the job training with advancement opportunities.
REQUIREMENTS

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift up to 100 pounds and sometimes push/and or move up to 300 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is commonly exposed to airborne particles and gases at low concentrations. The employee is frequently exposed to waste material, feed and hog dust.
