Job summary

Seaboard Foods in Holyoke, MA is seeking reliable Animal caretakers to care for pigs in our swine production facilities. On-the-job training is provided; no prior experience is required.

This role involves monitoring feed and water, maintaining barn environment, assisting with breeding and piglet processing on sow farms, keeping records, and upholding safety and animal welfare standards. Pay is $18 per hour with full benefits after 90 days and opportunities for advancement.

Responsibilities & Tasks

• Monitoring feed quality and water supply
• Monitoring barn environment and ventilation systems
• Breeding sows (if placed on sow farm)
• Processing piglets (if placed on sow farm)
• Loading and unloading pigs as scheduled
• Maintaining farm cleanliness
• Enforce strict safety guidelines and company animal welfare standards
• Keep accurate inventory records of livestock
• Ability to identify visual symptoms of common swine diseases, treat and vaccinate sick animals as necessary.
• Sort off and segregate hogs with disqualifying physical defects
• Achieve PQA certification with the National Pork Board

Pay Rate

Hourly: $18.00

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift up to 100 pounds and sometimes push/and or move up to 300 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is commonly exposed to airborne particles and gases at low concentrations. The employee is frequently exposed to waste material, feed and hog dust.
