Job summary

City of Winslow is seeking a Humane Services Officer to support animal shelter operations and field work. Responsibilities include intake, care, vaccination, and documentation of animals; handling euthanasia when required; and maintaining shelter records.

The role requires a valid Arizona driver’s license, physical fitness for lifting up to 50 pounds, and the ability to work in varied environments with exposure to animals and chemicals. At-will employment with probation applies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent and some prior experience caring for animals, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Must possess a State of Arizona driver's license.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Work is performed in field and in office environments; exposure to animal bites and chemicals.

Responsibilities

• Receive stray, roaming, trapped, and relinquished animals; captures and handles animals; scans for owner identifiers.
• Investigate reports of animal bites; check rabies vaccination records; impound unvaccinated biting animals.
• Vaccinate animals at intake and document medications and treatments.
• Administer first aid and transfer animals to veterinary hospitals as needed.
• Perform humane euthanasia in accordance with policy; document sick, injured, and diseased animals.
• Maintain Animal Control Center facilities; clean kennels and offices; dispose of dead animals.
• Provide care and health evaluations for animals; feed, water, observe health indicators.
• Input data and maintain records on intake, disposition, adoptions, licensing, and vaccinations.
