Job summary

City of Wichita is seeking an Animal Control Officer to enforce leash laws, rescue animals, and respond to calls from the Animal Services Center. The role involves field investigations, transporting animals to the shelter, and maintaining logs. Training and shift work are required, with on-call standby duties.

The position requires knowledge of animal handling, proficiency with radio dispatching, and a valid driver’s license. Provides union benefits and city employee benefits upon employment.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Ability to learn radio and dispatching procedures.
• Knowledge of leash laws and application to homeowners.
• Able to work outdoors in varied conditions.
• Must acquire/maintain valid Kansas driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Operate an animal control van in daily duties.
• Respond to service calls from the Animal Services Center.
• Capture animals and transport to shelter.
• Investigate animal bites and leash-law violations.
• Maintain daily activity logs and reports.
• May supervise in the supervisor's absence.
