Animal Care Technician Job Description

Animal Care Technicians are trained to provide excellent care for Petland puppies. It is critical that every puppy's nutritional, behavioral, environmental, and maintenance needs are met. Animal Care Technicians provide care by following established company systems and procedures. Compensation

The current starting pay for Animal Care Technicians is $14/hr, increasing to $15/hr after 90 days of employment.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform opening, daily, and closing procedures in the kennel.
  • Complete procedural cleaning checklists to ensure maximum cleanliness and maintain cleanliness standards.
  • Monitor the health of all puppies and kittens daily and assist in keeping proper records.
  • Ensure proper pet nutrition, socialization, and cleaning are handled according to expectations.
  • Assist the store veterinarian with puppy and kitten examinations and provide care and medications as prescribed.
  • Selected and properly trained key holders assist with training and coaching of less experienced Animal Care Technicians.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Required Education and/or Training

High school diploma or GED, or one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

  • Traveling - Occasionally required to travel
  • Finger Dexterity - Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity

  • Visual Acuity - Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and use a keyboard
  • Lifting / Pushing / Carrying - Occasionally required to lift more than 50 lbs., with frequent lifting, pushing, or carrying of up to 30 lbs.
