Job Description

Key Points - this is not a job for everyone
Handling mice and rats that are genetically bred for medical testing.
Cleaning cages, feeding, and maintaining animals in a sterile environment.
Candidates must take a shower and change into sterile clothes (provided) each day. Breaks and lunch breaks are not permitted during work hours. Food is provided.

Responsibilities

• Provide food, water, and clean housing to animals according to a strict schedule.
• Maintain detailed records of animal production and inventory in precisely weighed and aged groups.
• Inject or medicate animals as instructed.
• Prepare animals for shipment.
• Work within changing shift times and rotating overtime schedule.
• Review integrity of the isolator unit and perform maintenance.
• Maintain work area in an organized, aseptic, and safe condition.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to handle laboratory animals and recognize abnormalities.
• Commitment to provide the highest quality care for laboratory animals and their offspring.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks quickly and efficiently.
• Accurately calculate and record numbers.
• Good teamwork skills.
• Ability to work in a confined environment.
• Work in a standing position that requires bending and stretching of arms and legs throughout the shift.
• Lift and move objects regularly throughout the shift.
• Avoid contact with rodent species outside of work.
