Position Overview

The Operations Leader - Animal Care promotes and ensures the efficient and effective operations of the Companion Animal Department and drives sales of aquatic pets, reptiles, birds, and small companion animals. This leader will coach and mentor all Pet Care Center partners to support and enhance the guest experience and animal care. Responsibilities include training, developing, supporting scheduling, and leading a high-performing team that meets sales, gross margin, and animal and merchandise shrink targets. They will also assist in managing all aspects of the Pet Care Center's operations in line with Petco standards and safety procedures.

Position Responsibilities
  • Utilize business acumen to analyze trends and implement improvement plans.
  • Ensure the health and well-being of live animals following Petco standards, including health checks and wellness documentation.
  • Adhere to Veterinary Protocols for sick animals.
  • Process transactions to enhance guest experience.
  • Support guest interactions and sales strategies.
  • Implement and oversee Companion Animal and Aquatics operations through training and coaching in various areas including animal care, maintenance, ordering, and compliance.
  • Manage inventory to maximize sales and margins, analyzing data for improvements.
  • Maintain operational standards and animal maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure high presentation standards in animal areas.
  • Partner with merchandising leaders to ensure stock levels meet goals.
  • Handle documentation for all adoption animals.
  • Analyze sales and margin reports to inform decisions.
  • Lead, coach, and provide feedback to team members for excellent guest service.
  • Coordinate partner scheduling to meet in-stock and service goals during peak hours.
  • Engage in talent management including recruiting, hiring, training, and succession planning.
  • Provide excellent service by understanding guest needs and sharing product knowledge.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college courses preferred.
  • At least 1 year of management experience required; 2+ years preferred.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in communication, organization, and computer skills required.
  • Strong guest service, problem-solving, and people development skills preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility

The Operations Leader supervises Operations Specialists and Senior Aquatics Specialists, supports the Pet Care Center operations, and ensures safety and attendance processes are followed.

Work Environment

This role requires support during key hours, including weekends. Most duties are indoors, with some physical activity involved. Some travel may be required.

Contacts

This position involves ongoing contact with customers, team members, vendors, and external partners to coordinate various activities and ensure smooth operations.
