Animal Care Manager: West Place Animal Sanctuary
Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily operations, including volunteer program management, animal care, nutrition, medical administration, and equipment maintenance.
- Train and oversee volunteers in feeding, cleaning, and maintaining resident areas.
- Manage waste removal, composting, and sanitation procedures.
- Oversee equipment cleaning, maintenance, and storage.
- Create additional tasks for volunteers as needed.
- Perform daily health checks on animals and administer supplements, medications, or injections as required.
- Report health issues to the Operations Manager or Executive Director.
- Update training manuals regularly.
Volunteer and Intern Program Management:
- Assess volunteer staffing needs in collaboration with department managers.
- Match volunteers with suitable activities and track their training completion.
- Maintain volunteer data and communicate regularly with volunteers.
- Develop recognition and appreciation programs, including training high-profile volunteers as shift supervisors.
- Manage communication channels with volunteers and develop comprehensive orientation for interns.
Property and Building Management:
- Ensure buildings are maintained and cleaned.
- Coordinate repairs with handyperson volunteers.
- Monitor utility usage and promote conservation.
- Maintain overall property cleanliness.
Skills and Physical Requirements:
- Enthusiasm and strong organizational skills.
- Critical thinking, mindfulness, and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency with relevant programs and apps.
- Team-oriented attitude and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to handle large animals, stand for long periods, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Job Details:
- Type: Full-time
- Salary: $40,000/year
- Schedule: 9-5:30, Wednesday – Sunday, including holidays
- Benefits: Employee discount, 10 days PTO
- Experience: 1 year in operations management and large animal care preferred
