Job summary

The Salvation Army in Tuscaloosa, AL is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator for the Angel Tree Program. You will recruit, train and supervise volunteers, coordinate staffing at the Christmas Distribution Center and malls, and maintain accurate records.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, strong organizational skills, and a valid driver’s license. Experience in an office environment is preferred and you will report to the program manager.

Responsibilities

• Interviews, recruits, screens and selection of volunteers for the Christmas Angel Tree Program.
• Posts listing of volunteers at malls to ensure staffing at all times.
• Maintain names of volunteers at the Christmas Distribution Center in a book to be kept current at all times.
• Call and recruits volunteers if a time slot is not filled, reviewing the previous year’s list of names and numbers and finding replacements.
• Maintain statistics, placement and follow-up for all Angels at all locations.
• Assist with an Appreciation Program for the Christmas Program employees and volunteers at season end.
• Contact corporate sponsors on angel requirements and prep materials for delivery.

Job Location: ALM-Tuscaloosa Al Corps - Tuscaloosa, AL 35404, Salary Range: $15.00 Hourly, This position is responsible for:

Manages the Angel Tree Program; recruits, trains, coordinates the work of volunteers ensuring sample staff to meet Christmas program needs; prepares records and reports for the Christmas program.

Key Responsibilities

• Interviews, recruits, screens and selection of volunteers for the Christmas Angel Tree Program.
• Posts listing of volunteers at Malls to ensure staffing at all times.
• Maintain names of volunteers at the Christmas Distribution Center in a book to be kept current at all times.
• Call and recruits volunteers if each time slot is not filled, reviewing the previous year’s list of names and numbers. Find replacement volunteer if a volunteer calls and is unable to report.
• Maintain the statistics, placement and follow-up for all Angels at all locations.
• Assists with an Appreciation Program for the Christmas Program employees and Christmas volunteers at the end of the season.
• Contact Corporate Sponsors on the number of angels they require, preparing materials and angels for delivery.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
• Work may require driving a vehicle where there may be discomforts associated with heavy traffic or changes in weather.
• Duties are usually performed seated; however, work at the Christmas Distribution Center will require walking, standing, lifting and carrying.
• Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU: : Education and Experience

• Two years experience working in an office environment or
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
• Valid driver’s license
