Job Description: Anesthesia Technician
Performs a variety of duties related to and involving the processing and preparing of room, equipment, and supplies for patients undergoing anesthetic procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain anesthesia supplies and drugs by establishing inventory levels, requisitioning supplies and drugs, and restocking supply and drug inventories.
- Efficiently transport gas machines and other anesthesia equipment and supplies to and from outside of Operating Room off-site locations.
- Assist with offsite anesthesia cases.
- Retrieve, carry, and appropriately distribute necessary medications to the Anesthesiologist, CRNA, or PA for the preparation or care of a patient for anesthesia.
- Communicate effectively with anesthesia and operating room staff to ensure daily operating room assignments are prioritized at the start of each shift. Remain accessible in operating rooms at all times.
- Disassemble, decontaminate, and sterilize anesthesia equipment and supplies. Report equipment problems to the Chief Anesthesia Technician.
- Retrieve and appropriately distribute equipment necessary to prepare a patient for anesthesia, including specialty equipment for invasive lines, monitoring, difficult airway, and pediatric procedures.
- Stock carts and surgical suites with required supplies as outlined on the anesthesia surgical suite stock par list.
- Operate Blood Cell Saver.
- Participate in turning over rooms to ensure minimal downtime between cases.
- Maintain equipment by preparing, testing, and setting up various anesthetic devices for surgical use; troubleshoot equipment issues; perform preventative maintenance and routine cleaning.
- Support anesthesia providers by setting up IVs, central venous lines, and arterial lines; assembling necessary drugs, syringes, and needles; opening prepackaged sterile trays.
- Assist with the placement of invasive monitoring lines, such as arterial, venous, and PA catheters, during pre, intra, and post-operative phases.
- Assist in the delivery of blood samples to the lab and retrieval of blood products.
- Perform Point of Care (POC) diagnostic laboratory assays/testing procedures after initial competency is achieved.
- Maintain adequate stock in the workroom and keep the area clean and orderly.
- Assist with lines and specialty room set-ups, including difficult airway management.
- Maintain complete and accurate records and reports.
