Job summary

Mass General Brigham's Newton-Wellesley Hospital is seeking an Anesthesia Technician to support anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists, assisting with setup, care, and maintenance of anesthesia equipment and related supplies.

The role includes inventory management, collaboration with Purchasing and Biomedical Engineering, compliance with quality standards, and providing basic patient assistance as needed on site at 2014 Washington Street, 40 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
• Experience: Previous experience as an Anesthesia Technician preferred.
• Knowledge and Skills: Must be self-directed and work well independently.

Responsibilities

• Provides general and specific assistance to the anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists (and to the nursing staff when needed) on any and all clinical activities that do not involve the direct care of patients or the handling of medications.
• Cleans, cares for, and maintains all anesthesia equipment to ensure proper functioning.
• Inventories and orders supplies from purchasing, storeroom, and pharmacy as needed.
• Works collaboratively with the hospital Purchasing and Biomedical Engineering Departments to arrange for preventive maintenance, scheduling of service contract QC inspections/repairs, as well as emergency repairs and requests for loaner equipment.
• Performs light maintenance and calibrations of equipment as specified by manufacturer and approved by the Biomedical Engineering Department.
• Works with the Biomedical Engineering Department to ensure compliance with JCAHO Standards.
• Checks and replaces gas tanks as needed.
• Cleans and cares for all reusable and/or contaminated equipment according to established standards/policies and procedures.
• Organizes and maintains records pertinent to stock data for verification and justification of budget.
• Assists in the provision of basic nursing care to assigned patients.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living; performs these activities for patients who are unable to care for themselves.
