Job summary

Toast is seeking a seasoned Engineering Manager to lead the POS Payments Experience team. You will guide a high-performing group of engineers working with PM and UX, and collaborate across POS and Fintech.

The role includes ownership of analytics, monitoring, and production reliability, with hands-on involvement when needed. You will mentor and hire, shape technical direction, and champion AI-enabled development practices to boost velocity and quality in a hybrid work environment across the

Qualifications

• Experience leading and mentoring successful teams to drive predictable business results.
• Experience delivering mobile products (Android preferred) to a large customer base, and working in mobile codebases with a large number of developers.
• Strong technical background in Java, Kotlin, and Android that you use to guide your team's decisions and plans.
• Experience managing a mix of core contributions and cross-team engagements.
• Experience communicating technical designs and contributing to the design process.
• Not afraid to get hands‑on or go deep to help the team reach its goals, and you encourage high agency and exploring creative outlets.
• A collaborative, solution-oriented approach with business and product leaders.
• A desire to build diverse teams that win together and prioritize customer success.

Responsibilities

• Drive delivery of business outcomes for POS payments, including planning, schedule, and execution.
• Drive cross-team and cross-organization efforts, especially across POS and Fintech, with predictable results and excellent collaboration.
• Collaborate closely with PM and UX to fill the team's backlog with actionable, valuable work.
• Ensure end-to-end quality and delivery of software, including ownership of monitoring and production issues.
• Partner with technical leaders to set technical direction and continuously improve architecture, codebase, and engineering practice.
• Hire and develop new team members.
• Coach individuals in professional and technical development.
• Champion the use of AI tools and practices to accelerate development, improve team velocity, and pioneer new ways of building, setting the bar for what it means to be an AI-first engineering organization.
