Job summary

Toast Tab, Inc. is seeking an experienced Android systems engineer to design and deliver features for Toast POS Android apps. You will write designs spanning on-device apps, cloud services, and hardware, and guide projects from ideation through production with cross‑functional partners.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of Android application development experience.
• Proficient in Kotlin or Java.
• Deep experience with Android architecture patterns and libraries.
• Understanding of app lifecycles, background work, IPC.
• Experience leading cross‑functional projects from ideation to production.
• Ability to debug complex issues across app, framework, and OS layers.
• Experience using AI tools throughout the development lifecycle.
• Clear written and verbal communication; technical design skills.
• Strong customer empathy and focus on reliable tools for operators.

Responsibilities

• Own design and delivery of features across Toast's Android system apps.
• Write technical designs spanning on-device apps, cloud services, and hardware.
• Build reliable background services and deploy with feature flags and staged rollouts.
• Lead Android upgrades for new hardware and OS versions with partners.
• Expand end-to-end automated testing on real Toast hardware.
• Investigate complex production issues across the fleet with teams.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and design feedback.
• Collaborate with Product, Hardware, QA, and other teams on scalable systems.
• Leverage AI tools to improve development workflow and velocity.
