Job summary

Toast is accelerating its Android Systems team to deliver a unified device management experience for Toast POS devices. The role focuses on designing and shipping Android system applications in Kotlin/Java, enforcing device policies, and managing firmware and app updates across a global fleet.

You will lead cross-functional efforts with hardware and cloud teams, build reliable background services, and enhance automated testing with Robot Framework to reduce manual regression.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of Android application development experience.
• Proficient in Kotlin or Java and Android architecture patterns.
• Experience leading a cross-functional project with multiple engineers, product, QA, & design teams.
• Proven ability to debug complex issues across app, framework, and OS layers with adb and logcat; AI tooling experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of features across Toast's Android system applications in Kotlin and Java.
• Write technical designs for features spanning on-device apps, cloud services, and hardware.
• Build reliable background services and deploy them to Toast fleet with feature flags and monitoring.
• Lead Android upgrades for new hardware and OS versions in collaboration with Hardware and Firmware teams.
• Expand end-to-end automated testing on real Toast hardware with Robot Framework.
• Investigate production issues and partner with Customer Care during device rollouts.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and pairing.
• Collaborate with Product, Hardware, QA, and other teams to build scalable, secure systems.
• Leverage AI tools to improve development velocity and innovation.
