Job description

Primary role of this position will be responsible for supervising Anatomic Pathology activities under the direction of the CNE Anatomic Pathology (AP) Manager and to assist the daily operations of the department.

Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate all Anatomic Pathology lab activities under the direction and guidance of the Anatomic Pathology Management.
  2. Review and sign off on quality control records, including temperature and instrument maintenance logs, CAP comparisons, and department statistics as applicable and according to CAP and Joint Commission standards.
  3. Provide training and competency assessments for personnel and new hires.
  4. Assist in selection, evaluation, verification, and validation of instrumentation and reagents.
  5. Develop procedures for testing and review current procedures under the guidance of the CNE AP Manager.
  6. Create schedules and evaluate staffing needs for sick, vacation, and LOA.
  7. Oversee the procurement, preparation, and analysis of patient specimens according to established procedures.
  8. Oversee and troubleshoot issues with AP instrumentation. Review calibration, maintenance, and quality assurance records.
  9. Evaluate test results for accuracy, reportability, and clinical significance and report variances accordingly.
  10. Oversee the department inventory of supplies and manage to budget.
  11. Maintain current knowledge of the specialty by attending seminars, in-services, and reading journals.
  12. Evaluate new methodologies and instrumentation under the guidance of the CNE AP Manager and report findings and recommendations.
  13. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications and Specifications

Bachelor's degree in a biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science required; master's preferred. Certification as a Cytotechnologist, CT (ASCP) required. Minimum of six months of job-related experience or equivalent is required.
