Job summary

Econ One Research in Washington, DC seeks an Analyst/Senior Analyst to support our Energy Practice with quantitative analysis, data management, and research on electricity and power markets. You will contribute to challenging matters, use Python, Excel, and GAMS to clean and analyze large datasets, and prepare clear memoranda, exhibits, and testimony materials under tight deadlines.

It is a collaborative, fast-paced environment with mentoring and opportunities for growth, and a hybrid schedule

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Optimization or Engineering.
  • 2–3 years of energy/economic consulting or related analytical role.
  • Experience handling large, messy datasets.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills; ability to apply statistics.
  • Proficiency with Python, GAMS and Excel for data analysis and presentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to meet deadlines and maintain accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative research and analysis related to electricity and power markets, regulatory issues, and litigation.
  • Construct, clean, and manage large datasets using Python and Excel.
  • Perform data analysis, statistical evaluation, and investigative work with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare memoranda, exhibits, and presentations summarizing analytical findings.
  • Assist in the preparation of expert reports, declarations, and testimony materials.
  • Review and check work for accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
  • Support fact checking and backup preparation for reports and exhibits.
  • Synthesize information from discovery, deposition testimony, literature, and public data sources.
  • Collaborate with senior staff and experts while managing multiple assignments under deadlines.

Job description

Econ One advises clients on electricity and power markets, energy regulation, damages analysis, and market design issues in some of the most consequential disputes in the industry. Our teams work closely with testifying experts, attorneys, and clients to deliver clear, defensible economic analysis.

Econ One's Energy Practice provides quantitative analysis of electric and natural gas markets to utilities, attorneys, power producers, and investors involved in litigation and regulatory disputes. The practice advises on energy finance, market structure and regulatory issues, resource planning, decarbonization, hedging strategies, and portfolio risk management. Our team has served as testifying experts on market power issues, supported major electric utility merger matters, and served as principal investigators in market manipulation investigations before regulatory bodies such as FERC.

Econ One is seeking an Analyst/Senior Analyst to support our Energy Practice. Analysts serve as core members of case teams on challenging and high-profile matters, contributing quantitative analysis, data management, and research in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. This role is well suited for candidates who enjoy solving complex analytical problems, working with large and imperfect datasets using programming tools like Python, and producing precise, high-quality work product under tight deadlines.

Analysts in the Energy Practice are involved in all phases of consulting engagements and may be responsible for:

  • Conducting quantitative research and analysis related to electricity and power markets, regulatory issues, and litigation matters

  • Reviewing and synthesizing information from discovery materials, deposition testimony, academic literature, and public data sources
  • Working closely with senior staff and experts while managing multiple assignments under tight deadlines

Requirements

Required:

  • Advanced Degree in Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Optimization or Engineering
  • 2-3 years of experience in energy consulting, economic consulting, electric utility, power markets or a related analytical role

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including the ability to apply statistical concepts
  • Proficiency with Python, GAMS, and Excel for data analysis and presentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong commitment to accuracy, quality, and meeting deadlines

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of energy market modeling, particularly electricity and power
  • Experience supporting litigation, regulatory proceedings, or expert analysis
  • Comfort presenting complex quantitative results to non-technical audiences
  • Willingness to work a hybrid schedule out of the Washington D.C. office
