Job summary

Athens State University invites applications for the Director of the Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative (AMSTI). The 12‑month director oversees AMSTI site operations, staffing, budgeting, and data management, while coordinating with ALSDE and regional partners to implement projects.

The role requires a Master’s in Elementary or Secondary Education, 5–10 years of teaching in Alabama, and AMSTI experience.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree or equivalent in Elementary Education and/or Secondary Education.
• At least three years training and experience with AMSTI.
• Broad educational work experience to include a minimum of five to ten years teaching in Alabama Public Schools.
• Knowledge of PC systems and a variety of software.
• Skill to effectively write and deliver oral presentations and respond to questions from diverse groups.
• Valid and current driver’s license required; FBI/ABI background clear status.

Responsibilities

• Communicate and collaborate with AMSTI - ALSDE to implement AMSTI projects and follow policies.
• Oversee operation of the AMSTI site, supervise staff and the inventory center, budget activities, monitor the AMSTI Inventory Management System.
• Plan and supervise training per AMSTI components; obtain prior approvals for setup and training absences.
• Coordinate with AMSTI - ASIM, RSIs, IHEs, and affiliates to implement AMSTI.
• Recruit and select schools and teachers for AMSTI PLOs.
• Lead efforts to expand AMSTI status for schools and teachers.
• Coordinate mentoring and professional learning for specialists and trainers.
• Arrange publicity and media releases per PR requirements.
• Maintain records of participating schools, staff itineraries, and evaluations for growth.
• Ensure data-driven guidance and timely paperwork; coordinate with sites and seek grants.
