Position Title: Ammunition and Explosives Logistics Specialist

Aviation & Missile Solutions, LLC. (AMS) is seeking a talented Ammunition and Explosives Logistics Specialist to join our diverse team, in Huntsville, AL. AMS provides responsive, cost-effective engineering and scientific solutions ranging from air and missile defense technologies, command and control, radar systems, seekers, modeling & simulation, and prototype hardware development and testing.

Position Description:

  • The Ammunition and Explosives Logistics Specialist is responsible for end-to-end accountability, tracking, shipment coordination, receipt, storage management, and documentation of ammunition, explosives, and related hazardous materials in support of operations at Redstone Arsenal. This position ensures strict compliance with all applicable Department of Defense (DoD), Department of the Army, federal, state, and local regulations governing the handling, storage, transportation, and recordkeeping of Class V (Ammunition) materiel and other energetic items.
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Logistics Management and Tracking
    • Maintain continuous accountability of ammunition and explosive materials from receipt through storage, issue, shipment, and final disposition.
    • Utilize approved logistics information systems, barcoding, and manual logs to update inventory status, movement, and usage.
    • Develop, maintain, and reconcile stock records, transaction histories, and inventory reports to ensure data accuracy and audit readiness.
    • Perform cyclic, annual, and special inventories; investigate and resolve discrepancies in counts, documentation, and serial/lot numbers.
  • Shipping, Receiving, and Transportation Coordination
    • Prepare, review, and process shipping and receiving documentation, including DD Forms, bills of lading, and other transport documentation for hazardous materials.
    • Coordinate with carriers, installation transportation offices, and external agencies for compliant movement of ammunition and explosives via ground, air, and other authorized modes.
    • Ensure all shipments comply with DOT, DoD, IATA/ICAO (as applicable), and international transport regulations for hazardous materials.
    • Verify proper packaging, marking, labeling, blocking/bracing, and placarding for all outgoing shipments of explosives and ammunition.
  • Storage, Handling, and Explosives Safety Compliance
    • Manage storage locations, quantities, and segregation of stocks in accordance with explosives safety standards.
    • Monitor and enforce Quantity-Distance (Q-D) requirements, compatibility group restrictions, and approved storage configurations.
    • Conduct and document pre-operational inspections of storage facilities, magazines, and related infrastructure to identify safety or security deficiencies.
    • Ensure personnel handling ammunition and explosives follow all required procedures for safe handling, loading/unloading, and movement within the installation.
  • Documentation, Reporting, and Audit Support
    • Maintain all required logs, forms, and records for ammunition and explosives, including lot numbers, condition codes, and shelf-life or service-life data.
    • Prepare routine and ad hoc reports for management, safety offices, and oversight agencies regarding stock levels, usage, losses, condition changes, and incidents.
    • Support inspections, audits, and staff assistance visits by providing complete, accurate, and timely documentation and records.
    • Document and report any incidents, discrepancies, or potential violations in accordance with established incident reporting procedures.
  • Regulatory and Policy Compliance
    • Interpret and apply applicable DoD, Army, and installation-level policies and technical manuals related to ammunition, explosives, and hazardous materials.
    • Ensure adherence to physical security requirements for arms, ammunition, and explosives, including key control, access control, and intrusion detection measures as required.
    • Coordinate with explosives safety, environmental, and security offices to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and security regulations.
  • Coordination and Communication
    • Interface with government program offices, unit representatives, depot/arsenal activities, carriers, and other stakeholders regarding requirements, schedules, and priorities.
    • Provide status updates on shipments, receipts, and inventory posture to leadership and supported organizations.
    • Support planning for training, test, or operational events requiring ammunition and explosive support, including forecasting and requisitioning actions.

Location:

  • Redstone Arsenal- Huntsville, Alabama
  • Position is 30 hours per week in the office.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications (e.g., Ammunition Handler, Explosives Safety, Hazardous Materials/Dangerous Goods certification, Army or DoD HAZMAT certification).

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • Prior military experience in MOS/AFSC related to ammunition supply, ordnance, or munitions.
  • Certified in hazardous materials shipping
  • Experience working in an ammunition supply point (ASP), depot, or test range environment.
  • Familiarity with Redstone Arsenal policies, procedures, and local operating instructions.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain, or a related field preferred.
  • Have 20 years of experience.

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the year.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.

Security Requirements:

  • Citizenship: Candidate must be a US only citizen.
  • Clearance level: possess (and be able to maintain) a Final SECRET/SSBI Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Final SECRET Clearance.
