Smithfield Foods is hiring a Refrigeration Maintenance Technician to monitor, maintain, and repair ammonia refrigeration equipment in our Indiana facility. You will work with operations to plan repairs, perform audits, and ensure food safety practices are followed.

The role requires ammonia-related certification or readiness to obtain within the first year, plus strong mechanical/electrical maintenance skills. A collaborative, safety-focused mindset is essential for success.

Qualifications

• Industrial maintenance experience with three or more areas from the list
• Basic computer skills and ability to work independently
• Preference for mechanical/electrical/industrial maintenance certs or college coursework
• Excel in fast-paced, team environment; respectful, collaborative approach
• Operate PIT equipment (forklift/genie lift/scissor lift)

Responsibilities

• Monitor, maintain, and repair ammonia refrigeration equipment
• Demonstrate strong safety leadership and follow safe practices
• Plan and conduct equipment repairs as part of a team
• Conduct routine audits and equipment inspections
• Demonstrate troubleshooting abilities
• Maintain open communication with operations
• Respond to unplanned/emergency work requests promptly
• Follow food safety and good manufacturing practices
• Be highly motivated and able to work independently
