Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking a full-time maintenance technician to support the plant's reliability and safety programs. The role requires RETA certification and hands-on experience with ammonia refrigeration, boilers, and mechanical systems.

You will work with a team to plan repairs, perform inspections, troubleshoot issues, and respond to urgent work requests while upholding food safety and GMP standards. Opportunities for growth and relocation assistance are available.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 1+ years of related maintenance experience.
• Or 4 years’ direct experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing.
• Must have RETA Certification and knowledge in ammonia refrigeration and plant systems.
• Willing to work all shifts, extended hours and weekends.
• Strong safety awareness and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct equipment repairs as part of a team.
• Perform routine audits and equipment inspections.
• Demonstrate troubleshooting abilities.
• Maintain clear communication with operations.
• Respond to unplanned or emergency work requests.
• Follow food safety and GMP.
