Job summary

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah County seek AmeriCorps STEM Specialists for the 2026-2027 school year. You will deliver hands-on STEM education, lead lessons after school hours, and track student progress at multiple elementary sites.

You will serve as an AmeriCorps member, completing 450 service hours and earning an Education Award upon completion. Position offers a living allowance of $7,200 per term, disbursed bi-weekly, and an Education Award of $1,956.35.

Qualifications

• 18+ years of age.
• US citizen or legal permanent resident.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Meet CNCS requirements.
• Experience working with children.
• Knowledge of youth development.
• Ability to work with the school and general public.
• Plan and implement quality programs for youth.
• Organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications may be required.
• Valid State Driver's License.
• Preference for STEM/education background.

Job description

Utah County Area is hiring for 4 AmeriCorps STEM Specialists for the upcoming school year 2026-2027.

Locations: Amelia Earhart Elementary, Park Elementary, Provost Elementary & Wasatch Elementary.

Schedule

The AmeriCorps STEM Specialist will spend about 12-16 hours each week assisting with hands‑on, informal STEM education of the Boys & Girls Club. The schedule is approximately Monday through Friday from 2:45-6 PM from mid August 2026 to end of May 2027.

The individual selected for this position will serve as an AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps is a national service opportunity, not just a regular job. This is a wonderful opportunity to add service and hands‑on teaching experience to your resume! This is an especially terrific opportunity for someone who is pursuing an education or STEM‑related career. AmeriCorps members sign an agreement to complete a term of service. You will be expected to complete a minimum of 450 service hours throughout your term of service.

This position will provide a living allowance of $7,200 paid over each term of service. The stipend will be split up and paid on a bi‑weekly basis (every other week) basis during your term of service. NOTE: You will not be paid hourly.

In addition, an Education Award of $1,956.35 will be awarded upon successful completion. The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is a post‑service benefit received by individuals who complete terms of national service in approved AmeriCorps programs. This award (similar to a Pell Grant) can be used to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions.

Key Responsibilities

Provide STEM education

• Lead STEM lessons during the time allocated each week

Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:

• Build positive relationships with youth, families, school staff, and your teammates;
• Promote and stimulate program participation;
• Provide guidance and role modelling to members;
• Ensure members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
• Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members.

Program Development and Implementation

• Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for all members and visitors.
• Monitor and evaluate program services and activities.
• Oversee member safety, program quality, and appearance of the organization at all times.

Supervision

• Supervise and ensure safety during indoor and outdoor activities (rain or shine).
• Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly organization staff meetings.

Additional Responsibilities

• May participate in special programs and/or events.
• Participate in weekly staff meetings and all grant required training.

Skills/Knowledge Required

• 18+ years of age.

• Experience in working with children.

• Preference will be given to individuals with educational or work experience related to science, technology, engineering, math, teaching, and/or education.
