Job summary

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah County are seeking AmeriCorps STEM Specialists to deliver hands-on youth STEM education at Belknap Elementary, Milford Elementary, and Minersville Elementary in Beaver County for the 2026‑2027 school year.

You will work about 12‑15 hours per week from August 2026 through May 2027, supporting youth development and program quality while serving as an AmeriCorps member. Living allowance and Education Award are provided upon completion.

Qualifications

  • 18+ years of age.
  • United States citizen or legal permanent resident.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Meet CNCS requirements.
  • Experience in working with children.
  • Knowledge of youth development.
  • Able to work with schools and community.
  • Plan and implement quality youth programs.
  • Organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • Preference for STEM/education-related background.

Responsibilities

  • Provide STEM education: lead lessons, track student numbers, complete timesheets and reports, evaluate progress.
  • Create an environment supporting Youth Development Outcomes through relationships and engagement.
  • Develop and implement programs, monitor services, ensure safety and program quality.
  • Supervise indoor/outdoor activities and participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Participate in special programs and grant-required training.

Job description

Beaver County is hiring for 3 AmeriCorps STEM Specialists for the upcoming school year 2026‑2027. The 3 locations are Belknap Elementary, Milford Elementary & Minersville Elementary.

Schedule

The AmeriCorps STEM Specialist will spend about 12‑15 hours each week assisting with hands‑on, informal STEM education of the Boys & Girls Club. The schedule is approximately Monday through Thursday from 2‑6 PM from mid‑August 2026 to end of May 2027.

The individual selected for this position will serve as an AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps is a national service opportunity, not just a regular job. The term is divided into two periods: one from August to December 2026 and the second from January to May 2027. Each term requires a minimum of 300 service hours.

Stipend and Education Award

This position will provide a living allowance of $4,800 paid over each term of service, distributed bi‑weekly. In addition, an Education Award of $1,565.08 will be awarded upon successful completion of the full term.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide STEM education:
    • Lead STEM lessons during the time allocated each week
    • Maintain records of lesson plans and track data for the number of students served
    • Complete weekly timesheets and a monthly report
    • Evaluate progress of youth served using surveys & rubrics
  • Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
    • Build positive relationships with youth, families, school staff, and teammates
    • Promote and stimulate program participation
    • Provide guidance and role modeling to members
    • Encourage participation in a variety of program activities and provide constructive feedback
    • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members
  • Program Development and Implementation:
    • Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for all members and visitors
    • Monitor and evaluate program services and activities
    • Oversee member safety, program quality, and appearance of the organization at all times
  • Supervision:
    • Supervise and ensure safety during indoor and outdoor activities (rain or shine)
    • Participate in weekly organization staff meetings to maintain a productive work environment
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • May participate in special programs and/or events
    • Participate in weekly staff meetings and all grant‑required training
Skills/Knowledge Required
  • 18+ years of age
  • United States citizen or legal permanent resident
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Meet the requirements set by the Corporation for National and Community Service
  • Experience in working with children
  • Knowledge of youth development
  • Motivated youth and manage behavior problems
  • Ability to work with the school and general public
  • Plan and implement quality programs for youth
  • Organize and supervise members in a safe environment
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications may be required
  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • Preference for individuals with educational or work experience related to science, technology, engineering, math, teaching, and/or education
