Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan is seeking an AmeriCorps Coordinator to manage the AmeriCorps program and support members throughout their term.

The role reports to the Chief Operations Officer and involves training, resources, guidance, and ensuring members have the support needed to succeed in their service.

Qualifications

  • Preferred in Education, Human Services, Youth Development, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
  • Experience with youth, volunteers, AmeriCorps members, or community programs preferred.
  • Supervisory, program coordination, or leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day AmeriCorps program operations.
  • Maintain records for member participation, service hours, training, and documentation.
  • Recruit, interview and select AmeriCorps members; onboard new members.
  • Provide members with information on expectations, policies and responsibilities.
  • Support staff and site placement to match program needs.

Before school, after school, during the summer months and on Friday nights, the Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan engages members in fun and educational activities that help develop a sound moral compass and influence their ability to succeed in life.

AmeriCorps Coordinator

Pay: $14 an hour

Hours: 20-25 hours a week

Reports to: Chief Operations Officer or other designee

Position Summary

The AmeriCorps Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and managing the Boys & Girls Club's AmeriCorps program and supporting AmeriCorps members throughout their service term. This position serves as the primary point of contact for AmeriCorps members, helping ensure they have the training, resources, guidance, and support needed to be successful in their roles.

Essential Responsibilities
AmeriCorps Program Management
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Boys & Girls Club AmeriCorps program.
  • Ensure AmeriCorps program requirements, policies, and deadlines are followed.
  • Maintain accurate records related to member participation, service hours, training, and required documentation.
  • Communicate regularly with AmeriCorps program representatives and BGC leadership.
  • Assist with program planning, implementation, evaluation, and reporting.
Member Recruitment & Onboarding
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and selecting AmeriCorps members.
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation for new members.
  • Provide members with information regarding BGC expectations, policies, procedures, and service responsibilities.
  • Help place members at appropriate Club sites based on program needs and member strengths.
Member Support & Supervision
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with AmeriCorps members.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with members to discuss progress, challenges, goals, and overall well-being.
  • Help members navigate challenges and connect them with appropriate resources when needed.
  • Recognize and celebrate member accomplishments and contributions.
Training & Professional Development
  • Ensure members receive the training necessary to successfully fulfill their service responsibilities.
  • Provide professional development opportunities focused on youth development, leadership, communication, behavior management, and career readiness.
  • Encourage members to develop skills that will benefit them beyond their AmeriCorps service.
Site & Program Support
  • Work with operations staff to ensure AmeriCorps members are effectively utilized within Club programming.
  • Help staff understand the role and responsibilities of AmeriCorps members.
  • Monitor member engagement and participation at assigned Club sites.
  • Assist with resolving communication or placement concerns between members and site staff.
  • Ensure AmeriCorps members are contributing to a safe, positive, and engaging environment for youth.
Qualifications
  • Preferred in Education, Human Services, Youth Development, Nonprofit Management, or a related field of study.
  • Experience working with youth, volunteers, AmeriCorps members, or community-based programs preferred.
  • Previous supervisory, program coordination, or leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and responsibilities.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar technology.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.
