Job summary

Conservation Legacy seeks a Boundary Marking Crew Member for AmeriCorps, based out of Chattanooga, TN, serving with SECC across the Southeast. This entry-level role requires outdoor endurance, camping, travel to USFS sites, and a focus on boundary maintenance and data collection.

You will work in a four-person crew, with two crew leaders and two crew members, on a 9-day schedule, handle equipment, safety, and training in Wilderness First Aid; eligibility includes US citizenship and a 18–30 age

Qualifications

  • United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident status
  • Between the ages of 18-30 (or up to the age of 35 for veterans)
  • Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of elementary or secondary school to enroll as an AmeriCorps participant, and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award
  • Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check
  • General comfort with or prior experience in outdoor environments
  • Ability to quickly acquire and learn new skills and techniques
  • Ability to cooperate in a team with varied skills, abilities, and perspectives
  • Willing to spend long days in challenging environments

Responsibilities

  • Perform heavy manual labor to complete conservation projects in challenging terrain
  • Camp overnight and live in field conditions while carrying up to 50lbs of gear
  • Maintain equipment and ensure safety as a top priority
  • Travel to various forest locations with a crew vehicle and hikes as needed
  • Collect field data related to leasing and boundary maintenance
