Sinclair Community College is seeking a part-time adjunct faculty member to teach American Sign Language courses at daytime offerings in Dayton (Hope Center) and Mason (Courseview Campus). The starting pay is $1,046 per credit hour assigned to teach.

Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in interpreter education (master’s preferred) and demonstrate ASL proficiency and native-like signing skills.

Qualifications

  • ASL proficiency with native or native-like signing skills.
  • National Interpreting certification (RID/NIC) preferred.
  • Evidence of successful prior ASL/interpreting teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach curriculum developed by the department as adjunct faculty.
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
  • Prepare, distribute and submit syllabi for assigned sections.
  • Use appropriate teaching strategies and instructional technology.
  • Modify instructional methods to meet diverse student needs.
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote student success.
  • Evaluate and return student work promptly to foster learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and final grades.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student information and comply with deadlines.
  • Respect credit hour limits per semester (not exceed 12).

Position Summary The SinclairAmerican Sign Language ( ASL ) Program offers acomprehensive curriculum designed to provide students with a deepunderstanding of American Sign Language ( ASL ), deaf culture, andinterpreting practices. Courses range from introductory levels toadvanced training, preparing students for careers in interpreting,captioning, and working with the Deaf community. The Sinclair ASL Program is currently seeking part-time(adjunct) faculty for daytime courses at The Hope Center in Dayton,Ohio and the Courseview Campus in Mason, Ohio. The starting pay forAdjunct Faculty is $1,046 per credit hour assigned to teach. Forthe full list of available courses to teach, please explore our coursecatalog .

This position is open only to applicants who residein Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky, or who are able to perform workwithin one of these states. Sinclair Community College restrictspart-time employment to approved states due to employment, tax, andbenefits compliance requirements.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by thedepartment
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize studentlearning
  • Prepare, distribute and submit syllabi for all assignedsections in accordance with department and divisional policies
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, useavailable instructional technology when appropriate
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategiesto meet diverse student’s needs
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote studentsuccess
  • Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promotelearning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Submit final grade rosters according to establisheddeadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Cannot exceed maximum of 12 credit hours per semester

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in interpreter education orrelated field required; master’s degree preferred
  • Proficiency in ASL is required; Native or native-like signingskills
  • National Interpreting certification ( RID / NIC )preferred
  • Evidence of successful prior teaching ( ASL /Interpreting)experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning throughinnovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the courseand program level
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills withthe capacity to work successfully in a culturally diverse collegecommunity
  • Must possess demonstrated skills in using modern educationaltechnology, including multimedia-based instruction
