Job summary

Sinclair Community College is seeking part-time (adjunct) American Sign Language instructors for daytime courses at the Hope Center in Dayton, OH and the Courseview Campus in Mason, OH. Pay starts at 1,046 USD per credit hour taught, with program needs guiding course assignments.

Qualified applicants hold a bachelor’s degree in interpreter education or related field, ASL proficiency, and residency or work authorization for OH/IN/KY.

Responsibilities

  • Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by the department.
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
  • Prepare and submit syllabi for all assigned sections per policy.
  • Employ effective teaching strategies and use instructional tech when appropriate.
  • Modify instructional methods to meet diverse student needs.
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote student success.
  • Evaluate and return student work promptly and maintain progress records.
  • Submit final grade rosters by deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Cannot exceed maximum of 12 credit hours per semester.

Position Summary: The Sinclair American Sign Language ( ASL ) Program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to provide students with a deep understanding of American Sign Language ( ASL ), deaf culture, and interpreting practices. Courses range from introductory levels to advanced training, preparing students for careers in interpreting, captioning, and working with the Deaf community. The Sinclair ASL Program is currently seeking part-time (adjunct) faculty for daytime courses at The Hope Center in Dayton, Ohio and the Courseview Campus in Mason, Ohio. The starting pay for Adjunct Faculty is $1,046 per credit hour assigned to teach. For the full list of available courses to teach, please explore our course catalog. This position is open only to applicants who reside in Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky, or who are able to perform work within one of these states. Principal Accountabilities

  • Adjunct faculty teach curriculum developed by the department
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning
  • Prepare, distribute and submit syllabi for all assigned sections in accordance with department and divisional policies
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, use available instructional technology when appropriate
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student’s needs
  • Support classroom and online efforts to promote student success
  • Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promote learningMaintain accurate records of student progress
  • Submit final grade rosters according to established deadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Cannot exceed maximum of 12 credit hours per semester

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in interpreter education or related field required; master’s degree preferred
  • Proficiency in ASL is required; Native or native-like signing skills
  • National Interpreting certification ( RID / NIC ) preferred
  • Evidence of successful prior teaching ( ASL /Interpreting) experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving student learning through innovative strategies shown to help students succeed at the course and program level
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills with the capacity to work successfully in a diverse college community
  • Must possess demonstrated skills in using modern educational technology, including multimedia-based instruction
