Job summary

Northfield Hospital + Clinics is seeking an American Sign Language Interpreter to bridge communication between healthcare staff and deaf or hard-of-hearing patients. The role supports access to care across hospital and clinics in Northfield, MN.

Responsibilities include interpreting at various sites as needed, with hours varying up to 10 hours per week and additional evening/weekend opportunities. Must have ASL/EN interpreter training and RID/NIC or CDI certification.

Compensation

We are committed to providing wage ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on experience, education and internal equity considerations. The hourly wage range for this position is $32.45–$45.81. This range reflects the base pay for this position.

Key Accountabilities

• Serve as an interpreter between Northfield Hospital + Clinics personnel and deaf or hard-of-hearing patients and families to facilitate access to care.


• Interpreting may be needed at any of our surrounding Clinic sites, as well as at the Hospital in Northfield.

Schedule

• This position will be contacted as interpreter needs arise for patients requiring American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, typically with at least one day’s notice.


• Hours will vary from week to week, averaging up to 10 hours per week.


• Additional hours may be available during evenings and weekends, sometimes with short notice.


• Candidates interested in additional hours should be able to arrive within 30 minutes when contacted.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.


• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with the ability to interpret accurately between Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing patients and hearing individuals.


• Completion of an ASL/English Interpreter training program or equivalent education and experience.


• Current Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) certification required.


• Six months work experience as an ASL interpreter; healthcare interpreting experience preferred
