Job summary

VCU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician to provide direct, age-appropriate care under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practitioner. The role includes documenting vitals and patient data, assisting with hygiene, and maintaining a safe, clean unit in alignment with the plan of care.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, CNA certification preferred, and BLS certification. On-site hospital work with mandatory trainings and teamwork with the health care team.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Nursing assistant certification preferred.
• AHA BLS Healthcare Provider certification or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, direct care to patients in their unit with age-appropriate adjustments and report updates to the health care team.
• Assist with activities of daily living and hygiene to meet patient comfort and safety needs.
• Deliver care per nursing plans and hospital policy, maintaining a safe, clean environment.
• Maintain supplies and equipment, ensuring proper sterilization and readiness.
• Record patient data during the care cycle, including vitals, intake/output, and weight.
• Collect specimens for diagnostic tests as needed.
• Participate in mandatory trainings and uphold patient safety initiatives.
• Establish rapport with patients and staff, and respond to instructions promptly.
