Job summary

The Brigham and Women's Hospital is seeking a Phlebotomy Technician to collect and process blood specimens with supervision. You will train new staff and ensure accurate labeling, processing, and transport of specimens for laboratory testing.

Responsibilities include patient identification, handling biohazardous materials, and contributing to patient care in a HIPAA-compliant environment. Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, on-site at 60 Fenwood Road.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Experience in phlebotomy 1-2 years required.
• Phlebotomy Technician certification preferred (HR only).
• Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

Responsibilities

• Obtains quality blood samples using phlebotomy methods for all age groups.
• Ensures accurate patient identification, labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens.
• May assist in recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and rapid response to emergencies.
• Communicates effectively with patients and care teams, addressing concerns to ensure satisfaction.
• Troubleshoots and resolves specimen, order, and common operational issues.
• Provides training and education to new staff and students.
• Handles sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Operates computer systems and complies with HIPAA regulations.
• Performs other tests, administration, and specimen collection as assigned.
