Job summary

Rhode Island Hospital seeks a Medical Assistant to support ambulatory care operations under supervision, following clinic workflows and Brown University Health policies. You will assist providers, manage patient flow, and support safety and confidentiality in a busy setting.

The role involves taking vital signs, preparing exam rooms, entering data in EMR, performing basic tests, and aiding in vaccines and follow-up coordination with labs and specialists.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent with ability to read/speak English.
• Graduate of formal Medical Assistant training program (9 months+) or 3 years MA experience in ambulatory setting within last 5 years.
• Basic Life Support certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist physician with physical examinations and procedures.
• Take and record vital signs, patient history and allergies in EMR.
• Prepare exam rooms and ensure equipment and supplies are ready for next patient.
• Perform point-of-care tests (BP, EKG, urinalysis, pregnancy test) and document results.
• Administer vaccines according to protocol and manage vaccine records.
• Coordinate referrals and follow-up appointments with patients and labs.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality per hospital policies.
