Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the clinical team in an ambulatory setting. The role includes direct patient care, supervising staff, and administrative duties to ensure smooth visits.

The candidate will obtain vitals, histories, perform EKGs and tests, update EMR, schedule tests, and assist with referrals and authorizations, with emphasis on patient confidentiality and infection control.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant training program of 9 months or longer, or 3 years MA experience in a comparable setting.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• 3 years MA experience in ambulatory setting preferred.
• EMR and appointment scheduling experience preferred.
• Strong communication, computer, organizational, and patient-care skills.
• Ability to remain calm in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and administrative support.
• Prepare patients for visits and obtain vitals/history.
• Assist with examinations and procedures; perform EKGs and related tests.
• Update EMR, track labs and referrals, and coordinate follow-up care.
• Schedule appointments and tests; obtain prior authorizations.
