Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West in Caledonia seeks a Medical Assistant or PCT to join our ambulatory care team on days (0.6 FTE, 24 hrs/wk). The role blends administrative tasks with clinical duties, including medical records, patient communication, vital signs and preparing patients for examination.

Under the Office Manager, you will assist physicians, administer medications as directed, maintain infection prevention, stock supplies and document visits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current Medical Assistant certification required.
• BLS certification required by 3/1/2025.
• Previous Medical Assistant experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Effective communication with patients and staff with diplomacy.
• Ability to operate medical equipment safely.
• Knowledge of infection prevention practices.
• Flexible, organized and able to handle stress.
• Able to follow instructions and procedures.
• Culturally sensitive and able to work with diverse populations.
• Proficient with computers and information systems.

Responsibilities

• Ensures reports, test results, labs and correspondence are available before appointments.
• Escort patients to exam room, interview, measure vitals and document in records.
• Review records to determine needed services and referrals.
• Assist physicians during examinations or procedures.
• Provide patients with information and instructions as directed.
• Keep exam rooms stocked and prepare instruments for sterilization.
• Provide clerical support including forms, calls, and records handling.
• Maintain infection prevention standards between visits.
• Administer medications and immunizations as directed by physicians.
• Process messages between patients and providers.
• Handle medication refills per established protocols.
• Maintain logs such as refrigerator temps and equipment checks.
• Perform EKGs and CLIA-waived testing when needed.
• Collect blood samples and other specimens as required.
• Participate in process improvement to enhance patient care.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Medical Assistant certification

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Experience as Medical Assistant (preferred)
