Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a Medical Assistant to support ambulatory care clinics under physician supervision. Duties include clinical and administrative tasks, patient prep, basic testing, and EMR documentation.

Education includes a high school diploma or GED and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program; CMA/RMA certification and CPR within 90 days are required. The role may float to other MedStar locations as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Less than 1 year ambulatory care experience required; externship preferred.
• For Cardiology offices: 6 months ambulatory care experience or related degree preferred.
• CMA-AAMA or RMA certification within 1 year required; CPR certification within 90 days required.

Responsibilities

• Assist providers with patient preparation and exams.
• Perform point-of-care testing and basic phlebotomy as trained.
• Document clinical activities in EMR and manage patient flow.
• Provide clerical support and patient screening per protocols.
• Float to other sites within the system as needed.
• Participate in safety, infection control, and quality initiatives.
