Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under physician/provider supervision. The role includes venipuncture, vaccine administration, vital signs, and support for patient exams, with potential to float to other sites within the system.

The position requires an accredited MA program or equivalent experience, at least 6 months in ambulatory care, and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• 6 months experience working in an ambulatory care medical office or equivalent.
• Externship in a medical or ambulatory health setting strongly preferred.
• For Cardiology offices only: 6 months experience in ambulatory care or related degree or cardiac tech coursework.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to department goals and adheres to policies and safety standards.
• Assists providers with patient preparation, examinations, and education.
• Screens patients for preventive care needs and barriers to care.
• Conducts patient interviews and supports transition of care and follow-up tasks.
• Performs point of care tests and minor procedures as directed.
• Documents activities in EMR and ensures accurate follow-up.
• Provides telephone screening and disposition planning.
• Floats to multiple sites and supports team members as needed.
